Memory is the mind keeping hold of what it has experienced.

Yoga Sutras 1.11 · verse 11 of 196

Unfolding the thread

Memory is on the list too. Patanjali defines it simply: the mind not letting go of something that happened. It's why you can learn from yesterday, and also why an old hurt can feel fresh this morning. Yoga doesn't ask you to erase memory. It asks you to notice when you're living in it instead of now.

Try today

When an old memory replays today, name it quietly ("remembering"), then look at one thing in front of you.
