Autumn

The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.

When the mind's movements fade, it becomes like a clear jewel, taking on the colour of whatever it rests on: the knower, the knowing, or the known.

Yoga Sutras 1.41 · verse 41 of 196

Unfolding the thread

A beautiful image: a flawless crystal placed on a red cloth looks red; on a blue one, blue. A quiet mind is like that. It takes on the true colour of whatever it rests on, without adding its own distortions. That clear, complete absorption is called samāpatti.

Rest your attention on one object for a minute. Notice the moments when you stop commenting on it and simply see it.

The Echo

The same truth, heard in another tradition

“For the perfect man employs his mind as a mirror. It grasps nothing: it refuses nothing. It receives, but does not keep.”
