Our store of past actions is rooted in these causes, and is felt in this life or in lives not yet seen.

Yoga Sutras 2.12 · verse 63 of 196

Unfolding the thread

Karma simply means action, and every action leaves a trace. Patanjali says our store of traces grows from the root causes of suffering, and its results arrive sooner or later: in this life, or (as the tradition holds) in others. Whatever you believe about other lives, the principle is familiar. What we do shapes what we meet.

Try today

Choose one action today purely for the kind of trace you'd like it to leave.
