Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
तदेवार्थमात्रनिर्भासं स्वरूपशून्यमिव समाधिः
tad evārtha-mātra-nirbhāsaṁ svarūpa-śūnyam iva samādhiḥ
When only the object shines forth, as if the mind were empty of itself, that is absorption.
Yoga Sutras 3.3 · verse 109 of 196
Unfolding the thread
Then even the sense of "I am meditating" falls away. The object alone remains, shining, and the meditator seems to disappear into it. That is samādhi. Anyone who has been completely lost in music or in nature has touched its edge.
Try today
Next time you're absorbed in something beautiful, notice afterwards that for a while there was no "you" doing it.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“I am crucified with Christ: neverthless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.”
