Practice is the effort to stay there, in that steadiness.

Yoga Sutras 1.13 · verse 13 of 196

Unfolding the thread

Practice isn't a performance, or a routine to get through. It's the effort to stay in, or return to, the steadiness you've glimpsed. Every time you notice you've drifted and come back, that is the practice. The coming back isn't a failure; it is the whole thing.

Try today

Sit for two minutes and count how many times you come back to your breath. Each return is one repetition, like lifting a weight.

The Echo

The same truth, heard in another tradition
