Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
स तु दीर्घकालनैरन्तर्यसत्कारासेवितो दृढभूमिः
sa tu dīrgha-kāla-nairantarya-satkārāsevito dṛḍha-bhūmiḥ
It becomes firm ground when kept up for a long time, without a break, and with care.
Yoga Sutras 1.14 · verse 14 of 196
Unfolding the thread
Three conditions, and all three matter. Time: not weeks, but seasons. Continuity: a little every day beats a lot now and then. Care: satkāra means doing it with respect, not as a chore. When all three are present, practice stops being something you push and becomes something you stand on.
Try today
Pick a practice small enough to do every day this month, even on your worst day. Five minutes counts.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“For as it is not one swallow or one fine day that makes a spring, so it is not one day or a short time that makes a man blessed and happy.”
