Autumn

The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.

ईश्वरप्रणिधानाद्वा

īśvara-praṇidhānād vā

Or it comes through surrender to Īśvara, the Lord.

Yoga Sutras 1.23 · verse 23 of 196

Unfolding the thread

Here Patanjali opens a second door. Instead of effort alone, stillness can come through surrender: offering your practice and your life to Īśvara, the divine or the highest you can imagine. The little word vā, "or," is generous. The Sutras don't insist on a creed; they simply note that letting go into something greater works.

Try today

Before one task today, offer it quietly: not for my credit, but as well as I can.
