The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
क्लेशकर्मविपाकाशयैरपरामृष्टः पुरुषविशेष ईश्वरः
kleśa-karma-vipākāśayair aparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣa-viśeṣa īśvaraḥ
Īśvara is a special Self, untouched by suffering, action, its results, or the traces they leave.
Yoga Sutras 1.24 · verse 24 of 196
Unfolding the thread
Who is Īśvara? In Patanjali's description, not a ruler or a judge, but a special kind of awareness that has never been caught in the cycle we're in: never troubled, never bound by actions or their consequences. It's something to orient toward, a picture of what freedom looks like.
Try today
Imagine an awareness that has never been hurt and never held a grudge. Sit with that picture for one minute.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
