Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
तत्र निरतिशयं सर्वज्ञबीजम्
tatra niratiśayaṁ sarvajña-bījam
In Īśvara, the seed of all knowing is complete, with nothing beyond it.
Yoga Sutras 1.25 · verse 25 of 196
Unfolding the thread
All the wisdom we have is a seed, Patanjali suggests, and in Īśvara that seed is complete. Classical commentators read the verse as an argument: if knowledge comes in degrees, more in one person and less in another, there must be a highest degree. We each carry some small part of that seed.
Try today
Notice something you understand today that you didn't a year ago. That's the seed growing.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“The more a man hath unity and simplicity in himself, the more things and the deeper things he understandeth; and that without labour, because he receiveth the light of understanding from above.”
