Unbounded by time, Īśvara was the teacher even of the first teachers.

Unfolding the thread
Every teacher had a teacher. Follow the line back far enough, Patanjali says, and you reach a source not bound by time at all: the teacher behind all teachers. It's a humbling thought for anyone who teaches, and an encouraging one for anyone who learns, because that source is still here.
