Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
तस्य वाचकः प्रणवः
tasya vācakaḥ praṇavaḥ
Its expression is the sacred sound, Om.
Yoga Sutras 1.27 · verse 27 of 196
Unfolding the thread
How do you point toward something beyond words? With a sound. Praṇava, the syllable Om, is called Īśvara's natural name: not a label someone invented, but a sound that seems to hold everything. Chanted slowly, it starts at the back of the throat, fills the mouth, and ends in silence.
Try today
Chant one slow Om, or hum it silently. Listen to the silence afterwards; that is part of it too.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
