Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
ततः प्रत्यक्चेतनाधिगमोऽप्यन्तरायाभावश्च
tataḥ pratyak-cetanādhigamo 'py antarāyābhāvaś ca
From this comes awareness turned inward, and the obstacles fall away.
Yoga Sutras 1.29 · verse 29 of 196
Unfolding the thread
Two things follow from repeating Om with feeling. Attention turns around to face its own source (pratyak-cetanā, awareness looking inward). And the things that usually block practice, listed in the next verse, begin to dissolve on their own.
Try today
At some point today, instead of looking at your thoughts, turn to notice the awareness they appear in.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“Look within. Within is the fountain of good, and it will ever bubble up, if thou wilt ever dig.”
