Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
विशोका वा ज्योतिष्मती
viśokā vā jyotiṣmatī
Or through the inner light that is free of sorrow.
Yoga Sutras 1.36 · verse 36 of 196
Unfolding the thread
Traditionally this points to meditation on a radiance felt in the heart, a luminous, sorrowless state. You don't have to see lights for this to make sense. Most of us know moments of quiet brightness inside, when nothing is wrong. Patanjali says you can rest your attention there, and it will steady you.
Try today
Recall a moment when you felt quietly bright inside. Rest in the memory of that feeling for a minute.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”
