Autumn
The quiet hour (Brahma Muhurta) is the traditional time for practice, just before sunrise.
तस्यापि निरोधे सर्वनिरोधान्निर्बीजः समाधिः
tasyāpi nirodhe sarva-nirodhān nirbījaḥ samādhiḥ
When even that is stilled, everything is stilled. This is samādhi without seed.
Yoga Sutras 1.51 · verse 51 of 196
Unfolding the thread
The first chapter ends where yoga's definition pointed from the start. When even the impression of insight is let go, nothing is left to sprout. This is nirbīja samādhi, seedless absorption, and the seer rests in its own nature. Chapter one began with "now"; it ends in complete stillness.
Try today
End today with a minute of letting go of everything, even the wish to let go.
The Echo
The same truth, heard in another tradition
“Stop the stream valiantly, drive away the desires, O Brahmana! When you have understood the destruction of all that was made, you will understand that which was not made.”
