Through saṁyama on the relation between the ear and space comes divine hearing.

Unfolding the thread

Sound travels through space; the ear receives it. Meditate on that relationship, Patanjali says, and a subtler hearing opens. Mystics of many traditions speak of a music heard within.

Try today

Listen to silence for two minutes. Notice what, if anything, is heard within it.

The Echo

The same truth, heard in another tradition

“What instrument through last night’s silence rang? My life into his lay the minstrel wove, And filled my brain with the sweet song he sang. It was the proclamation of thy love That shook the strings of Life’s most secret lyre.”
