एकसमये चोभयानवधारणम्

Nor can the mind grasp both itself and its object at the same moment.

Yoga Sutras 4.20 · verse 182 of 196

Unfolding the thread

Try to watch a thought and watch the watching at once. The mind can't do both; it flicks between them. So the mind can't be the final knower. Something else holds both together.

Try today

Look at an object, then notice yourself looking. Feel how attention moves between the two.

The Echo

The same truth, heard in another tradition

“Thou seest the form alone; thy two eyes are at fault.”
